Get the Most Out of Your EV With a Level 2 Residential Charger

The electric vehicle revolution is finally here. 1.6 million EVs were sold in the United States in 2023, a 60% increase from 2022. It shouldn’t surprise residents of Santa Rosa, CA, and the surrounding areas, considering California leads the way in the US with a 16.2% adoption rate. That’s largely due to state incentives and regulations aiming to phase out gasoline-powered cars by 2035.

These incentives include rebates when purchasing or leasing an EV and a commitment to building EV charging infrastructure throughout the state. Part of the convenience of having an electric vehicle is being able to charge it at home, which is why California is also offering incentives to install residential EV charging stations.

This blog highlights the benefits of having a charging station in the comfort of your home, who can help you with this installation, and local incentives available to you.

What Are the Benefits of Installing EV Chargers?

One of the best perks of EVs is the ability to charge at home—it allows you to start your day with a full battery without having to search for stations. However, the type of EV charger you use matters. Many people use Level 1 chargers that plug directly into a standard outlet.

These are great to top off a little at the end of the day but not when trying to recharge your battery fully. Instead, you should upgrade to a Level 2 station with much faster charging times. These stations are a popular addition to luxury homes and, on top of their convenience, will add to the overall value of your home.

Who Can Install Residential EV Chargers?

Level 2 EV chargers require a 240-volt circuit, which means you’ll need to work with a licensed electrician who is certified in installing EV chargers. The first step is coming to your location to conduct a site visit where we will audit your existing electric panel and proposed charger location. Then based on the results, we'll take care of any electrical upgrades needed to receive a city permit for the charger. Once the permit is received, we’ll install new panels if necessary, conduit, wiring and whatever else is needed to provide clean, consistent power to your EV charger. Finally, we’ll coordinate with your municipality to schedule an inspection and verify all code requirements are met.

What Are Local & Federal Incentives for Installing EV Chargers?

One of the great things about living in California is the many incentives available for those contributing to a net-zero emission environment. The California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) provides rebates for installing Level 2 chargers, which can cover up to 75% of installation costs. Many utilities, like PG&E, also offer rebates for charging equipment. The federal government also has implemented the Inflation Reduction Act which includes tax benefits for installing EV chargers. As part of your installation, we’ll help advise you on the rebates available for your home.
